In these 21 centuries of history, this place has gone through successive reconstructions and declines: Romans, Visigoths, Muslim attacks, assignment to Cluny, restoration by the Catholic Kings, headquarters of the Napoleonic troops, the government expropriation of 19^th century and, finally, thanks to the Cistercian Order, the material and spiritual recovery.

They maintain the marvellous Liturgy of the Hours’s music, have lodging open to the public and a shop with their organic products. Here is buried San Rafael Arnáiz, Patron of Youth, canonized in 2009 by Benedict XVI.
